Our Fortress in Days of Uncertainty

UNCERTAIN DAYS
As we walk through this present world, with the troubles, changes, challenges, and uncertainties all around us, we are all in need of a solid foundation. It has been said that when you are in a severe earthquake, the strange thing is that the ground itself is moving, there seems nothing secure to hold on to. There is however a ground that does not move, a foundation that is solid and a rock on which we can build our house. With the Pandemic and all else that is going on, it can often seem as though there is so much uncertainty around us, yet as Christians, we have a resting place in Him.

MY ROCK, MY FORTRESS
The Psalmist said “I love you, Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn[c] of my salvation, my stronghold”. What a wonderful conviction to have a child of God. These are words of assurance, words of security, and rest – He is my strength, rock, fortress, deliverer, rock (again), refuge, shield, horn, salvation, stronghold. When the world seems to be moving, when the future seems uncertain, let us run to him once more and find our refuge, our certainty, our assurance only in Him. In another psalm, we are told “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth be removed and the mountains fall into the depths of the sea,

ALL OTHER GROUND IS SINKING SAND
I was recently reminded of the timeless words to the old hymn

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name

On Christ the solid Rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand
All other ground is sinking sand

Amen, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” Psalm 46
I love the hymn “My hope is built on nothing less..” it has reminded me of another very precious too!

“The Lord’s our Rock, in Him we hide
    A shelter in the time of storm;
    Secure whatever ill betide
A shelter in the time of storm”

What a safe, sure and secure hiding place we have in the Lord Jesus, praise His Name!
