What is Prayer?
Prayer is one of the most important parts of a Christians life. It is the opportunity to speak directly with God our maker and our deliverer. If you consider how difficult it would be for most people to have a one to one chat with the Queen, or a President of a country, and yet our God made us, made this universe that we live in and all that we see. God is infinitely higher than any Queen or President and yet He is infinitely more approachable. For a Christian to have a one to one talk with God, only requires us to think on Him, come to Him with a humble heart, and talk to Him meaning what we say and having faith in what we ask for. He will never tell us He is too busy, or cant listen, He is always listening and watching over us.
If we do not yet know Jesus as our savior, He is still listening for our prayer, He is waiting for us to ask Him to forgive our sins, repent (turn away from our sins and follow Him) and to ask Him into our lives. We can never be perfect, and we will continue sinning, but Jesus died for those sins, and He loves and cares for us no matter who we are or what we are like. If we mean it from our hearts and we follow Him, He will always forgive us, and give us the free gift of salvation. He will be with us to guide us through this life, and on into an endless and wonderful eternity with Him. 1 Timothy 2:4 Who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
A Few Bible Verses About Prayer:
We all need to know what God says about prayer, for prayer is the way in which we communicate with God so we can tell Him our troubles, praise Him for what He has given us, ask Him for what we need, and to get to know Him better and become closer to Him.
Matthew 7:7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you".
Psalm 145:18. The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.
Philippians 4:6. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.
1 Chronicles 16:11. Seek the Lord and His strength; Seek His face evermore
Colossians 4:2. Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving.
Luke 18:1 Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart,
PEFC operate a ‘Prayer Chain’ which caters for those in need of urgent, concentrated and earnest prayer.
Simply phone Jean Drew on 01273 438842 to make your request known to her. This will passed quickly on down the chain and all in the chain will then bring the matter before the Lord in their prayers. This chain has seen wonderful answer to prayer and many have received blessing and encouragement from knowledge that others are praying for them and sharing their burden with the Lord.
PEFC hold a prayer meeting on Monday mornings between 10am and 11am to which everyone is invited to attend. We enjoy a ‘cuppa’ and pray for the needs of the Fellowship and wider community as well as the world wide church. There is no commitment to stay the whole hour so please come and go as you wish and if you have a prayer request then we will be happy to bring it to the Lord.
There is a ‘prayer box’ at the back of the church for requests or you can phone the Pastor on 07444 636801
